President’s Message

Dear Comrades,

We have a number of important events coming up where need your support.  On February 28 there will be “Quarter Auction” to start a Building Fund.  The Easter Ham and Turkey Roll will take place on March 25.  The annual Vimy Church Parade, which takes the form of an in-house Drum Head Service will be held on April 8 at 1:00 p.m.  This tradition seems to be unique to Branch 58. Please come out and support these events.

Yours in comradeship

3rd Vice President’s Report

Dear Comrades,

At the last Executive meeting it was decided to establish a new “Building Fund.”   According to our bi-laws, we should have had this in place already.  This fund will be kept separate and be reserved for much needed repairs.  Various events will be planned to raise funds.  The first such event will be a “Quarter Auction” to be held on Wednesday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m.  Please come out and support this event and give the the Building Fund a good start.

Yours in comradeship

Wilma Becker

Service Officer

Ways and Means

Dear Comrades,

The Christmas Ham and Turkey Roll was the most successful ever.  We are now preparing for the Easter Ham and Turkey Roll.  This will be held on Sunday, March 25 at 1:00 p.m.

Yours in comradeship

Merie Maurice

Entertainment

Dear Comrades,

All the entertainment for the Saturday Night Dances  has been booked until June.  Check the calendar page on this web site to see who is playing.

Colour Party

Dear Comrades,

The  Colour Party needs new members.  Age and illness have taken their toll on our members, leaving only a few to perform our ceremonial duties and show our existence on parades.  If you would like to join us, please see me, Harold Willis, or leave me a note at the bar.       No experience is necessary.

Our next parade will be the in-house Vimy Drum Head Service on Sunday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m.  Many of the founding members of Branch 58 and of the Colour Party fought at Vimy Ridge in 1917.

Yours in comradeship

Harold Willis

Ladies’ Auxiliary,

Dear Lady Comrades,

The Ladies’ Auxiliary is in dire need of new members.  Many of our most stalwart are unable to do what they have done in the past due to age and declining health.  “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.”  The Auxiliary has supported the Branch in all functions and financially since the very beginning and actually existed before the Legion.  We need new blood to pick up “the torch.”  If you would like to get involved, please see us.

Yours in comradeship

Pat Yorke

Pipe Band

Dear Comrades,

The Pipe Band is looking for new members of all ages to learn to play the bagpipes or drums and rebuild the band.  We would especially like to have younger beginners from about age 12 years.  No experience is necessary.  Legion affiliation is not required.  All lessons are free.  Call Jim Murray at 905-544-1819 or Doug Tulloch at 905-664-4086 or e-mail Doug at:   doug@tullochbagpipes.com      for more information or to get started.

Yours in comradeship

Doug Tulloch, P.Sgt.
